BOSS Outdoor Productions, NRA Bag Golden Moose

The team of BOSS Outdoor Productions bagged two trophy moose this season, despite stiff competition from the hunting world to bring home golden racks for Outdoor Channel’s best and most popular programming of 2008.

On Saturday, Jan. 17, The Outdoor Channel honored the National Rifle Association with two coveted Golden Moose awards for best turkey hunting footage (“American Hunter Television”) and best sound design (“American Rifleman Television”) on the network. The awards wrap up another spectacular year for BOSS, which produces the shows.

The honors were announced back-to-back during the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. BOSS and the NRA also were nominated for best educational show (“American Rifleman”), and best animation and graphics (“American Hunter”).

The latest trophies mark the third Golden Moose award in two seasons for BOSS. Last year, OC fans voted “American Rifleman” their favorite special-interest series.

“The Golden Moose awards are the Oscars of the outdoor industry,” said Brian Godfrey, president of BOSS Outdoor Productions. “A Golden Moose stands for excellence and accomplishment and we are pleased to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with many of the veterans who gave us our start. To be nominated is a great honor, but to win is validation."

The Golden Moose Awards recognize the production teams and hosts of the winning shows. In all, OC awarded 17 honors, including six Fan Favorites as determined by viewers who voted online at www.outdoorchannel.com.

“American Rifleman” airs Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., and Thursdays at 1 a.m. All times are Eastern. Viewers follow “ARTV” staffers around the country as they go behind the scenes to see how guns and gear are made, stand on the firing lines of the nation's top shooting competitions, and use the latest in tactical, defensive and sporting techniques as practiced by America's elite trainers and competitors. Add in “American Rifleman's” historic coverage of classic guns, people and events, and viewers get the most complete firearm show on television. Click to watch a clip.

In step with American Hunter magazine, “AHTV” supplements the thrill of the hunt by mirroring the destinations, tactics, guns and gear featured in the official journal of the NRA. From white-tailed deer to Western big game to upland birds and turkeys, it's all on “AHTV.” Watch Thursdays at 9:30 p.m., and Fridays at 3 p.m. and 1 a.m. Click to watch a clip.
